The San Juan Mountains of southwestern Colorado have some of the most spectacular scenery in the world. Miners and prospectors built hundreds of miles of wagon roads into and over these mountains in the late 1800's and early 1900's. These old roads give us access to this awesome scenery as well as ghost towns and mines that have a lot of history. We take people on these "Jeep roads" to see the mountains and get a sense of what was involved in settling this rugged part of Colorado. A 4x4 is THE best way to really see the San Juan Mountains. We have very experienced drivers. Our vehicles are convertible for optimum viewing; we can put a canvas top on in a matter of minutes if we get a rain shower. We drive slowly and stop at various places for photos. Since our vehicles do not have tops, photographs and video can be taken even while we are driving. What to Bring The weather in the San Juan Mountains can vary a great deal in the course of a few hours. We suggest that you dress in layers to be prepared for cool, or hot temperatures. You will also want to bring a jacket, hat, sunglasses, sunblock, and bottled water. And...don't forget the camera! Lunch is not included in the cost of the tour. You may bring a picnic lunch, or we will stop in one of the small mining towns such as Ouray, Telluride, or Lake City. Special Considerations Our tours are 98% off-highway! Our tours go to high elevations and are not recommended for people on oxygen or with breathing problems. Our vehicles are not wheelchair-accessible. We can take physically challenged passengers, but they must be able to get into our vehicles without the aid of a lift. Hotel Pick-Up
Triangle Motel - 848 Greene St Hotel pick-up is included for specified hotels; please be in the lobby at least 15 minutes prior to the tour time. Children ages 5 to 12 qualify for the child rate.
